gold mines
















the way they mine here is just dig a big hole in the ground like a well, and once it is sufficiently deep (9-15 feet-ish) they will dig a lateral tunnel, then back up. each shovel of dirt is carefully sifted and all gold dust or nuggets removed. unfortunately, since these holes and tunnels are completely un-stabilized, they often collapse and kill or seriously injure the miner. this type of unregulated mining also greatly degrades the soil.
